Variables and Expressions
In math, you might see a problem that looks like this - 2m + n. The letters (m and n) are called variables. The whole problem is called an expression. To figure out this expression, you need to know what the letters represent. In this case, the m stands for 2 and the n stands for 3. Also, when you see two numbers, or variables, beside each other, that means you multiply them. Now you can figure out the expression.
1. 2m + n
2(2) + 3
4 +3 = 7
2. x = 2.4 y = 4.2
2(x) + y
2(2.4) + 4.2
4.8 + 4.2 = 9
1. 2m + n
2(2) + 3
4 +3 = 7
2. x = 2.4 y = 4.2
2(x) + y
2(2.4) + 4.2
4.8 + 4.2 = 9

BIMETALIC STRIP.
A BIMETALLIC STRIP is two different metals that a fussed together. When heated one metal will expand faster than the other causing the strip to bend.these are found in thermostats.
Infared Thermogram
An infared thermogram is a camera that can take a picture of the heat given off an object. The temperatures are different colors. If there is red it's hotter, if it is blue it's colder.

Temperature and Heat
Temperature- is a measurement Of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a material.
Heat- is speed and mass
Unit Rates
A unit rate is a rate with a one as the denominator. Here is an example 2:1 or 6:1 see the one is a denOminator

Science
Recording thermometer- uses a bimetallic strip that is atttachted to a pencil. The pencil makes a mark on a paper on a rotating drum.

Unit Rates
A Unit rate is a rate in which the rate is expressed as a quantity of 1. example: if a car goes 60km a hour the unit rate is 60. Q&A: question:If Bobby bought 2.5 Kgs of rice for $7.5, then what is the unit price of rice?Answer: Here the denominator should be 2.5 Kg and numerator is the price $7.5. The unit price of rice would thus be 7.5/2.5 = 3 $/Kg.

Ratio
On friday we are having a test one ratios and rates. Ratio: A ratio compairs quantities and numbers. Example: there are 10 boys and 5 girls so the ratio is 10:5
proportion
a proportion is a number set up like this 2/3=4/6 and that is what a proportion looks like
Rates
A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities of different kinds of units. A unit rate is a rate that has 1 as the denominator.
Ex) 75 miles per 1 hour
Here is how to get a unit rate.
Tom paid $738.75 for a 5-night stay in a hotel. How much was the nightly rate?
Right now, the rate is $738.75 / 5 nights. We want to see how one night would cost. To do this, we divide the nights by 5 to make it 1 night. Then we divide the amount by 5 also, and you have your unit rate. The unit rate would look like this = $147.75 / 1 night .

Solving Proportions
Janet earns $15.00 in 3 hours cleaning windows. How much should she earn in 15 hours?
$15.00/3 hours
(x3) (x3)
$75.00/9 hours
Janet would earn $75.00 cleaning windows in 15 hours.
$15.00/3 hours
(x3) (x3)
$75.00/9 hours
Janet would earn $75.00 cleaning windows in 15 hours.
RATE
A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities of different kind units. A unit rate is a rate with one in the denominator.
ex.
72 oranges
-------- = 72 oranges per box
1 box
Newspapers
Today in ela everyone got back there newspapers. everyone had to make there own newspaper there had to be a title page, provincial story, local story, national story, sports story, comic, classifieds. All the students were marked on there newspaper.
Optical Illusion
A optical allusion is when a picture play tricks on you eyes. If you look at it for a wile you can some times see it on the wall.
Rates
Rates are two quantities being compared. Like lets say it was 50 miles per hour well we are comparing miles and hours. Here is an example 70miles/2 hours. That is not a unit rate a unit rate is a rate with one as the denominator. So this is it 60 miles per hour
Ratios
The other day we learned about ratios. Ratios are easy. This is an example of a ratio; 5:8. This is comparing girls to boys in a classroom. so there would be 5 girls in the classroom and 8 boys. Here's another example; if there is 2 burgers and 6 hot dogs what would the ratio be? 2burgers to 6hotdogs. we can reduce this ratio to 1bugrer:3hotdogs.
Science
This week in science we learned what the word thermometers means.
Thermometers- device used to meausre temperature. Thermos- hotness in greek
Thermos+meter=hotness meter
Spelling Unit 21
This week in spelling We have the word succession. Succession has one other word form and that is Succeed. The meaning for succession is: To achive something desired or tries
Rate
In math we learned about rate:
-Rate is a ratio that compares two quantities of different units.
-Unit Rate is a rate in which the second term is 1.
Example: $1.25/5pounds = $0.25/1pound

Solubility is how much can be dissolved in an amount of solvent. It is a property of matter. Sugar has a high solubility 179.2 g/100ml.
Petroleum and Gold Ore
In science we had a test on petroleum, gold ore and other things. Petroleum is a liquid mixture found in the ground. Gold ore is a solid mixture of gold and other minerals.
Fractional Distallation
Fractional Distillation is a process where petroleum is vaporized and cooled. As it cools different products condense in a cooling towerand are collected and processed.

Equivalent Ratios
When you have equivalent ratios you just either multiply or divide each number by the same number. So if you have 2:3 it would be 4:6 or if you had 6:8 it would be 3:4 because I divided it by 2.
Factional Distillation
Petroleum is refined using the process of fractional distillation. It is a process where petroleum is vaporized and cooled. As it cools different products condense in a cooling tower and are collected and processed.

Math
Today in math we learned how to change improper fractions to mixed numbers.
For example: 5/4
To change 5/4 into an improper fraction you would have to see how many times goes into 5. So that would be once
1
then u would have to see how many are left over. That would also be 1. And the denominator stays the same.
So now that would be 1 1/4

percent to decimal
in math today we were learning about changing percent to decimal when you change a percent like 75% you divide by 100 and it equals 0.75
Percent to Decimals
To change a percent to a decimal you divide by 100, or just move the decimal 2 places to the left. See 76% divided by 100= 0.76
Percents as Fractions and Decimals
To change a percent into a decimal, all you have to do is divide the percent by one hundred.
Eg) 56% / 100 = 0.56
To change a percent into a fraction, you have to know that the word 'percent' means out of one hundred. So when you change the percent, you write the percent over one hundred. After you have done that, you reduce the fraction.
Eg) 56% = 56/100 = 27/50
